How to Grow Your Hair Long and Fast

I thought it would be fun to share some of my fast hair growing tips. Keep in mind that this is just what works for me & my hair and other stylist may have better & different tips for your hair type. My hair also grows extremely fast naturally but I notice a difference when I apply these tips verses when I don't. Let's get started.

Tip #1: Do not wash your hair every day.

When you are washing your hair make sure you are washing it twice. The first round of shampoo cleans the product build up on your hair the second washing gets the scalp cleaned. When your hair gets oily it's mainly on the scalp and if you're washing your hair only once with shampoo in the shower you're not getting that oil build up off of your scalp. So make sure you are washing your hair twice when you do wash it and you'll get a cleaner feel any way so you wont HAVE to wash it every day. There are a few products you can use to help you out in this area. You can get a cleansing shampoo to use for the first wash and it will get rid of the hair minerals, hard water, oil and product build up etc. My favorite is Redken Hair Cleansing Cream but I've also tried the Rusk Purify Deep Cleansing Shampoo and Carol's Daughter Clarifying Sulfate Free Shampoo.

To help with the hair growth you're going to want to buy a shampoo and conditioner that has some type of keratin treatment in it. Keratin is what makes your hair grow and so if you can add it, do it. Again there are a ton of products out there with this treatment, some really good ones are CHI Keratin Reconstruction Shampoo, Goldwell Keratin Shampoo, and of course Joico K-Pak Shampoo. Try some out and find your favorite.

If you feel like your hair is becoming flat or dull they have a great new invention called dry shampoo!! When I first tried this out I hated it. Working for ULTA Beauty I get a lot of free samples from all different brands of Dry Shampoo and I used to give them away the moment I received one. Well not anymore! The best tip to using this product is shaking it up really good and spraying only in your part area, crown and along the temples. This is get rid of the oily looking parts on your scalp and will add oomph back into your hair. Baby Powder works the same way if you don't want to fork out the money on Dry Shampoo. This will allow you to go one of two days more without needing a shampoo. This is going to help your natural oils make their way down to the tips of your hair where it is most damaged from being curled, blow dried, straighten etc.

Tip #2: Protect Your Hair!!!! (Especially from the sun)

We're usually careful about protecting our skin and face from the sun but what about our hair? We protect it from heat, flat iron, and the curling iron but we don't really talk about protecting it from the heat of the sun. A really easy way to start protecting your hair from the sun is by buying a hairspray with SPF or UV defense in it. Spray like normal and you're ready to go. Another great product is heat protectant. Find one that works well with your hair and spray it right after you get out of the shower. A really good one is the Aveda Damage Control, just get out of the shower, towel dry your hair and spray the product all over your head. It wont leave your hair sticky or feel like anything is in it. It dries just like water. Oh, also if you're tanning (indoor or outdoor) remember to put a towel around your hair, keep it away from those UV rays.

Tip #3: Do not put heat on the ends of your hair.

The most damaged part of your hair is the ends, by keeping them healthy you'll keep everything healthy, AND GROWING. A good trick for this is use the top of your hair (hair closes to the scalp) and get your volume there. It's the healthiest part of your hair, round brush, blow dry, curl everything up there avoiding the ends. This will keep the ends moist and less likely to split. This is where keeping your scalp clean and healthy comes in. Healthy Scalp = Healthy Ends.

Tip #4: Color only the top half of your hair.

Do you remember when you were in middle school and you would pull your hair up into half pony tails? Take that top half of your hair (the one in the pony tail) and only color that part. I know that sounds strange but your length comes from the hair underneath you don't want to be damaging that part with all that coloring and bleaching. If you're really looking to get your hair long and are desperate to get there quickly I suggest not coloring your hair for a whole year. Easier said than done, right? Easiest way to commit to this is by dying your hair as close to your natural hair color as possible and leaving it alone. You can get it trimmed, tease it, curl it, wear it however you want but do not touch that color.

Tip #5: Get trims often and ask for EXACTLY what you want.

Remember when I said the bottom half of your hair is where your length is and you don't want to damage that part? Well the same is true when you go in for your trims. That's the part of your hair that you do not want your stylist touching too much. Go ahead and get the top half layered and let the stylist take off as much as needed to get your hair bouncy and back to healthy but only allow a tiny bit off the underneath hair. This will allow you to keep your length but also let it be able to keep growing too and stay healthy. Don't be scared to ask your stylist for exactly what you want. Yes they might be the licensed professional but remember this is YOUR HAIR. You need to be happy with it.

Well there you go. Those are my 5 tips for growing out your hair. Keep in mind that I am not a licensed professional. I am not a stylist. If your hair dresser is telling you something different then by all means throw my tips out the window and listen to your stylist!! This is just what works for me.

Hope this helps!!

This post is geared towards parents of multiples but if you have singletons please feel free to reach out to the companies below too for some free samples and offers, but please be aware some offers might not apply to you. If you’re like me then the minute your babies were born you were online looking at deals and ways to save money. I came across a lot of blog posts and articles stating if you contact this company then they will send you this product free. I thought how true is this? So I put them to the test. I took many lists from the internet and combined it into one giant list of baby product companies; I then emailed and mailed each company requesting free samples due to the birth of my twin girls. Below you will find the responses I received. Some companies were great, while others were….off putting. I included coupon codes I found o...

October 6, 2017 - The Whole World Now Knows We Are Pregnant!

Wow. This past week has been crazy. We finally told the world that we’re expecting our babies this coming spring and I’ve receiving nothing but congratulations all week long. I strategically planned out our announcement as I’m not one for personal attention. I tend to shy away and knew I would need a week of a few “congratulations” and hugs here and there before I really started to see people and be overwhelmed by hugs and questions, etc. The internet is different, I have time to respond and think about how I’m going to answer certain questions but when you’re face to face with someone you don’t have a lot of time to think and it at times can make me anxious. Any way the cat is out of the bag and everyone knows now and I’m excited to be sharing my journey now publicly. I love posting pictures and writing updates. Even if people weren’t interested in our story I think it’s a nice keepsake to look back on and remember the journey it took to get to this point and the enjoyment of pregnan...
