September 26, 2017 - 12 Week Ultrasound

Today was our first High Risk OB appointment. We're going to Dupage Medical Group in Naperville. The Doctors are Julie Jensen, Kathryn Kemnetz, Kellen Patten and Michele Carney. I saw Dr. Patten today and she was great. Lots of energy, and full of information for us. 

Our Ultrasound was at 10:00 am and we were able to see both babies moving around in there. Baby A is still a jumper as he was moving all over the place. It was difficult to get a heartbeat because he kept moving away from the dopplar. He then flipped all the way around and was facing the other way when we tried to measure him. He's quit energetic and will be interesting to see his personality after he's born! He measured at 12w0d and his heart rate was over 150. Baby B was pretty chill again, moved a little here and there but nothing like his twin. He measured at 12w3d and his heart rate was also in the 150's. I am 12w2d today so babies are measuring well. They said they'll take + or - 7 days until they become concerned. Baby A has always measured a tad smaller than B and sometimes a little behind what day I actually am but all babies are different and grow at their own pace. It’s possible if they are true fraternal twins that Baby A implanted later than Baby B and that’s why he measures smaller usually. I’m not concerned until I need to be. BUT I can't wait to meet them!!

The babies are so "big" now we weren't able to get them in one photo. A is on the left, this was right after he flipped around to face the other way and B is just chillin on the right. I do have to admit these ultrasound machines are definitely not as high tech as our first Dr's. They are more blurry and a little hard to see the details of the babies.


I was given a packet of information from when to pack your hospital bag and what all you need, to when you should pre-register for your hospital stay. There was a book of classes Edwards offers to mommies and daddies and support groups if you go through loss or just need someone who understands what you're going through. 

My next appointment isn't until October 24th....I'm not used to such large gaps between appointments! I dunno what I'm going to do with myself between now and then. Next time I'm seeing Dr. Carney, I hope she's as nice as Dr. Patten. All these women had great reviews so I'm hoping I have good experiences with all of them as well. I can't believe we're 12 weeks along already.

The Dreaded Questions

I knew I always wanted to be a mom.... Even before I knew I would be married. I'm not really one to plan out my entire life. I never made a 'list' on qualities I wanted in a guy. I never had a "dream wedding" planned out. I never planned on when I was going to have kids. How many kids. What their names were going to be etc. etc. Lots of girls do all of those things and I don't think there is anything "wrong" with this but the reason I chose NOT to do any of them was because I never knew if they were meant for me. I never knew if I would ever get to those stages in my life. Even if I did, what if I had planned out my entire wedding and my future husband hated all those plans or had in his head a different way to do things? It's as much his wedding as it is mine - Seems unfair for me to choose everything I want without his opinions....
